My research spans film and media art in a global context, with a particular focus on the relationship between nonfiction and truth in contemporary art and media. I teach courses in moving image, archival/found footage film, subculture and the relationship between film, art and design. I have a particular interest in artists and filmmakers who employ strategies more typically associated with documentary media production (interviews, voiceovers, intertitles) to critically advance local resistance to established organs of power: governmental insitutions and global corporations. My current research focuses on the political strain of archival film in a global context, artists who challenge consensus truths by appropriating and remixing multiple archival and found footage sources. This research spans the globe, from Ireland and Eastern Europe, to South Africa and the Global South.
